On the Road: Saginaw, Michigan

For the second time in a month, Rudy Giuliani visited the pivotal early primary state of Michigan. Yesterday, he addressed business leaders in Saginaw, musing about his strong support for President Bush. And his word choice indicates he's genuinely undecided about '08 *gnashes teeth*.

SAGINAW - Rudy Giuliani says he won't decide whether to make a run for the White House until after this year's midterm elections.

The former New York City mayor, who gained national prominence in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and killed thousands, said he wants to help Republicans win office first.

Then he'll think about what to do next.

''I've never had to decide a question as momentous as that,'' he told reporters at a news conference Wednesday before he spoke at the Dow Event Center in downtown Saginaw.

''Politics changes very quickly,'' he said. ''What appears to be a good decision today could be a bad decision in six or seven months.''

If he runs, he wants to make sure he has something unique to contribute, he said.

Giuliani said he remains loyal to Republican President George W. Bush despite his record-low approval rating of polls.

''I have very, very strong affection for President Bush,'' said Giuliani, who toured Ground Zero with the president three days after the devastating attack.

''Maybe because I lived through something very difficult with him.''
