Giuliani Notes: California Representative George Radanovich - An Interview

California Congressman George Radanovich Endorses Rudy Giuliani

The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee announced today that Congressman George Radanovich is supporting Mayor Giuliani for President. Congressman Radanovich’s support is just the latest in a growing list of California endorsements which includes fellow Congressional members Mary Bono, David Dreier, Jerry Lewis, Devin Nunes, and Ed Royce.

“We need a proven leader with an optimistic vision who can unite our party and our country,” said Congressman George Radanovich. “Rudy Giuliani is an experienced, decisive leader who will use the same conservative principles that led to New York City’s revitalization to tackle the difficult issues our country faces today.”

“I welcome Congressman Radanovich’s support and look forward to working together to grow our California team,” Mayor Giuliani said.

Flap had the opportunity this afternoon to interview Representative Radanovich regarding the Giuliani campaign.

George P. Radanovich is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1995, representing the 19th District of California. The 19th District comprises all or part of the Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne Counties.

giulianimarch30jjweb

His Congressional website is here and campaign website is here.

Flap: Congressman where are you today?

GR: I am in the Valley in between Madera and Fresno, making the rounds (of his Congressional District).

Flap: Why Rudy Giuliani? Why have you endorsed him for President?

GR: This election will be about strong leadership while we are in this War on Terror. And this will require somebody who will be strong on leadership and be very decisive. And especially to be able to retain the White House for the Republican Party. And I think that Rudy does that job.

It is not so much for me (an election) on local issues but staying strong world-wide. We cannot afford to have just anybody who will not be strong and who thinks the Iraq War is a mistake. And, I think with his 9/11 background (Rudy) puts the best face on victory in the War on Terror.

Flap: So, you would say the War on Terror and the Iraq War - issues of War and Peace trump all of the others?

GR: I think they will be the biggest issues in this campaign. And I believe that over the next few months this President is going to start standing up to this Democratic Congress especially with these war votes coming up, and frankly the American people are going to start getting back (supporting) the President on this war and I want to carry this into the next presidency.

Flap: You mentioned earlier in your comments about electability and retaining the White House. How do you feel about Rudy’s electability versus Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

GR: I think for that reason Rudy’s strength on national issues will and (his) attitude of what we are trying to accomplish in the world he will show be much stronger than Hillary Clinton and frankly I just don’t see Obama getting the nomination.

giulianimarch30ccweb

Flap: Endorsements in GOP primaries are always risky. Certainly some Members of Congress do not put their necks out there and endorse in a partisan primary. Why have you decided to put your neck out and endorse Rudy over John McCain or Mitt Romney?

GR: Well, now is the time to start and with the new primary (GOP Party) rules in California, the individual districts will be able to weigh in more. (California chooses its GOP Presidential delegates based on winning a plurality in each Congressional District). So, I have the ability to hopefully influence not only delegates in my district but also surrounding Democrat districts and so the districts play a little bit more of a role in the nomination process. Plus, it is happening alot sooner than we think with the primary - and so getting in now, although it might seem a little early but is something we need to do in a timely fashion. I would support the nominee whoever it was but I think in the long run Giuliani goes the distance and I think will win in the long run. You know, if John McCain were to get the nomination or Mitt Romney or anyone else, of course, they would have my support. Just in my view, he is showing the ability to go the distance and he has got in his persona and a good face to put before the world and (to show) that we are determined to win and have victory over terror.

Flap: Lat week I interviewed Michelle Steel from the California State Board of Equalization and I asked her this question: In light of the polls showing Rudy Giuliani with a commanding lead over the GOP field, is the Presidential campaign in California is done/over? Michelle Steel said yes. Congressman, what do you say?

GR: Politics can change in a day and I do not think it is in anyone’s court at all right now. There are alot of things that can happen. Newt and Fred Thompson might enter the race and you never know what might happen with Romney or McCain -so no it is not over. There is still alot more listening by the public to do. We are a long ways from having this thing in the bag.

Flap: The Mayor has been up in your area and has campaigned up in Fresno this last month. Do you know of any plans for him to return?

GR: I know when I talked to him personally he said and this is before we knew for sure that the California Primary was going to be in February that he was going to be pretty much living in California. So, my feeling is that he will be out here quite often.

Flap: Some members of the GOP say that Giuliani is a liberal and that he doesn’t reflect the views and values of mainstream Republicans. What do you say Congressman?

GR: Like I said before the issue with national leadership on the War on Terror and cutting spending in New York City and I don’t think anybody believes he will be a tax and spend liberal.

He has satisfied me on a number of the social issues.

1. He opposes Gay Marriage in any form.

2. On abortion, he is on the conservative side - front and center now and does not favor Partial Birth Abortion. And he supports Parental Notification.

So, these are the issues and the fact that he is a tax-cutter not a spender. I think he fills the bill in that way.

Thank you Congressman for the interview.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Brent Seaborn Strategy Memo

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

From Brent Seaborn, the Giuliani campaign’s Director of Strategy:

To: Team Rudy
From: Brent Seaborn, Strategy Director
Date: March 22, 2007
RE: Mayor Giuliani’s Ballot Strength and Conservative Voter Support

Growth in Mayor Giuliani’s Ballot Strength
In early 2007, some people said that Mayor Giuliani would not run for President. On February 5th, Mayor Giuliani filed his FEC paperwork and legally declared himself a candidate for the Presidency. He ended this momentous day with an appearance on Hannity and Colmes.Since the Mayor made his intention to run for President clear, we have seen notable growth in support for our campaign. Before February, 5th, we were leading in major media polls by an average of 5-points. Since February, 5th our lead has grown to an average of nearly 20-points.
Lead In Every Major Media Polls Over Nearest Republican

The Mayor is Better Known to Conservatives than Some will Acknowledge
Many columnists and pundits question what will happen when Republicans “find out about the Mayor’s views on social issues.” Many of these stories are being generated by the same people that speculated that Mayor Giuliani would never run for President. Over the course of the last month, that question has been dispelled.A recent Newsweek poll shows Mayor Giuliani with a 25-point lead among Republican and Republican leaning voters and a 30-point lead among social conservatives. Mayor Giuliani has a wider lead among social conservatives than he does among Republicans in general. Social conservatives already know who Rudy Giuliani is. In fact, more than 70% say they know “some or a lot” about him - these numbers are almost identical or better than other candidates in the race.

Social conservatives are already more likely than Republicans in general to know the Mayor’s positions on key issues. Social conservatives are tuned in to the campaign and they like what they see in Mayor Giuliani.

According to recent analysis by Gallup Poll, Mayor Giuliani receives 47% of the votes among those that attend church “nearly weekly or monthly,” leading his nearest opponent by 28-points. Mayor Giuliani’s ballot share decreases to 31% among those that “attended church weekly” - yet he maintains a 7-point lead over his nearest opponent.

After reviewing other data, I have found similar evidence.

About half of Republican primary voters consider themselves to be “very conservative.” Among those “very conservative” Republican voters, Mayor Giuliani generally maintains a lead.

Another interesting point, about two-thirds of “very conservative” Republican primary voters consider Mayor Giuliani to be a moderate or a liberal. Yet even with these voters, Mayor Giuliani holds a 5-point lead over his nearest competitor.

The fact is - most Republicans believe that Mayor Giuliani is a social moderate or liberal and Mayor Giuliani leads all major candidates in this race (even among “very conservative” Republicans).

There are, of course, some voters that will never vote for Mayor Giuliani, and we know that we will see polls tighten. But the “when voters find out about Rudy’s record the sky will fall” notion is a myth.

Rudy’s positions and record are already known among most Republican primary voters and are factored in to the current polling.

What We Can Expect
Discrediting the commitment of the Mayor to run for President did not work. Telling Republicans that the Mayor’s positions on issues are unacceptable to primary voters does not work either.

As we have seen the next line of attack is aimed at discrediting the Mayor’s character. This attack - while not surprising - should be treated for what it is - cheap and political.

We expect polls to tighten as we move in to spring - such is the nature of the political process. While we are realistic about our expectations going forward, we are also pleased with where we are today and are confident our current support among Republican primary voters is strong.

Gallup Poll (1/12-1/14; 3/2-3/4)

Rudy is leading in the polls.

Next stop - how is the fundraising doing?

Stay tuned……..

Giuliani Notes: California State Board of Equalization Member Michelle Steel Endorses Giuliani for President

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

Michelle Steel, California State Board of Equalization Member for Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and portions of Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties has ENDORSED Rudy Giuliani for President in an interview with Flap this afternoon.

Mrs. Steel, elected this past November is the highest ranking elected GOP woman politician in California. She is also the highest ranking elected Korean-American official in the United States.

Steel’s California government website is here.

Her biography is here and here.

steelmarch19eweb

Why Rudy?

“America is in a war. He is the only candidate that can lead us through the war.”

“Rudy is the RIGHT ONE.”

When I first met him at the California Republican Party Convention in Sacramento I immediately “liked him.” “He never changes his mind”, is direct and has “so much energy.”

“I respect him for his leadership.”

What do you foresee as your role in the Giuliani campaign?

As the highest elected GOP woman officeholder, “I have and will continue to speak before Republican Women’s groups.” Hopefully, they will trust my judgment and support Rudy.

Also, Mrs. Steel sees a large role in fundraising, especially within the Asian community. She emphasized that many Americans of Asian heritage will be attracted to Giuliani because of his leadership and blunt, direct method of governing New York City.

She will reach out to them for votes and campaign cash. Fundraising events are currently being planned.

Mayor Giuliani currently has large leads in California and national polls. Is this race over?

“Yes”

American needs someone to “lead us.”

Of all the candidates, Rudy is the “BEST CANDIDATE - ONLY HIM.”

“There really is nobody else.”

Giuliani Notes: Rudy in Florida Defends Firms Citgo Work

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

giulianimarch18bweb

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, left, talks to New York Yankees manager Joe Torre in the Yankees dugout before the Yankees 8-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in a spring training baseball game in Tampa, Fl., Sunday, March 18, 2007. Giuliani attended a fundraiser at the stadium before the game.

AP: Giuliani defends firm’s work for Citgo

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Sunday defended his law firm’s role in representing Citgo Petroleum Corp., which is ultimately controlled by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, saying it was helping protect American jobs.

Giuliani acknowledged though, that his opponents will try to exploit the news that a lawyer with Bracewell & Giuliani of Houston has been representing Citgo before the Texas legislature.

The firm has had a contract with Citgo since before Giuliani joined it.

Somebody is trying to make a story/flap here. Poorly I might add…….

Rudy’s quotes:

“Oh, they’ll exploit everything,” Giuliani said in an interview. “There are things that make sense and things that don’t make sense and that doesn’t make any sense. It was one of those political attacks where you have nothing to do with it, you’re not involved in it and so it doesn’t really worry you very much. What they’re doing is lawful and honorable and helping to protect jobs for more than 100,000 Americans.”

And Rudy is correct:

Although Citgo Petroleum is a U.S.-based company, it was bought in 1990 by Petroleos de Venezuela, the national oil company of Venezuela. It employs 4,000 people in Texas and other states, and Giuliani said indirectly more than 100,000 people have jobs because of the company.

Rudy was in Florida raising money. What a fun way to do it.

Hey Giuliani campaign does Rudy need some press coverage on his next baseball trip?

giulianimarch18cweb

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, right, talks with Yogi Berra in the New York Yankees dugout before the Yankees faced the Pittsburgh Pirates in their spring training baseball game in Tampa, FL., Sunday, March 18, 2007. Giuliani, who was in Tampa for a fundraiser at the stadium, caught the game’s first pitch, thrown by Randy Maris, son of former Yankee legend Roger Maris.

Rudy watched the game and discussed Hugo Chavez and America’s dependency on foreign oil:

He discussed Chavez during the game, saying he is one of the reasons why the United States needs to develop alternative fuels and become energy independent.

“As the president I would make that my number one priority, the way Eisenhower and Kennedy made getting to the moon the number one priority of the American government. It has to consume a tremendous amount of our attention,” Giuliani said.

If the country had done so in the 1970s, the nation would be more secure now, he said.

He called Chavez dangerous and said the United States needs to use concerns about him to build relations with Latin American countries.

“We’ve got to learn how to play Chavez. There’s a lot of concern in America about Chavez; there’s even more concern in South America. We have to sort of use that to bring them to the United States,” he said.

Giuliani Notes: New York - Rudy’s Home Turf

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

giulianimarch17aweb

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani marches along Fifth Avenue during St. Patrick’s day parade in New York, Saturday, March 17, 2007.

MARCH ON RUDY’S ‘TURF’

GIULIANI GETS HIS IRISH UP VS. HILL

Rudy Giuliani laid claim to New York over his possible presidential rival Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday, saying the Empire State had been “my home turf” longer than it’d been hers.

The Republican Giuliani, who has kept his comments about Clinton to a minimum in the campaign so far, spoke just before he marched in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade up Fifth Avenue.

Asked how he’d do in a general-election matchup against Democratic front-runner Clinton on her “home turf,” a chuckling Giuliani replied: “I have to just remind you that it’s my home turf, too. And in fact, it’s been my home turf longer than Hillary’s.

Well, Rudy has a point. Hillary is a “carpetbagger” from Illinois via Arkansas via Washington.

“I was born in Brooklyn, I grew up in Nassau County for part of my life, I lived in Queens, I’ve lived in Manhattan, I went to school in The Bronx, and I did the best in Staten Island,” Giuliani added. “So [it’s] my home turf, too.”

Where does Hillary call home?

Wherever it is politically expedient.

Unlike McCain, Romney or any of the other GOP candidates for President, Rudy will put New York into play in November 2008. And why not? Rudy is a native New Yorker.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Beating Hillary by 8 Points

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap’s Dental Blog

giulianimarch16g450web

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) leading New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) 49% to 41% in an early Election 2008 match-up. Those figures are close to the lead voters gave the Mayor in our late February poll. Support for both candidates has dipped slightly since then, and Giuliani no longer crests above 50%. But the new numbers are consistent with the arc we’ve seen since November showing the mayor gradually increasing his advantage.

giulianimarch16aweb

And in last week’s Rasmussen poll, the Mayor continues to lead in the GOP race for the Republican presidential nomination - leading his nearest competitor Senator John McCain by 21 percentage points.

Hizzoner continues to surge and some negative campaigning has commenced.

Is this campaign shaping up for a Rudy landslide?

Stay tuned…….

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Donors Going To Bat in New York City

giulianimarch14h
Republican presidential hopeful and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (wearing a red tie) makes his way through a crowd of supporters during a fundraiser in New York March 14, 2007.

Donors Going To Bat For Giuliani

It’s not just spring training for baseball. On March 14, donors will be warming up for the New York Yankees’ No. 1 fan, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Insiders say he’s hosting his first fundraiser, the “New York City Home Team Reception.”

A baseball theme will rule: The $2,300 price will include Cracker Jacks, hot dogs, and a Rudy ‘08 ball cap. The entertainment: the Yank’s organist and Irish tenor Ronan Tynan singing “God Bless America.” And depending on the amount, donors will be categorized as “team captain,” “most valued,” “all star,” and “slugger.”

How big a fan is Giuliani? Pollster Frank Luntz, who’s been to games with Giuliani, tells us, “The most dangerous place anywhere is the space between Rudy and the Yankees.”

The political poop on the street is that Rudy raised over $2 miilion tonight in New York.

Update:

RUDY $WINGS AWAY AT THE PLATE IN MIDTOWN FUND-RAISER

White House hopeful Rudy Giuliani stood in front of a mock-up Yankee Stadium wall at a megabucks Midtown fund-raiser last night, telling the crowd he will go to Washington and fight the terrorists’ “war on us.”

Instead of appetizers, guests got Crackerjack, ice cream and hot dogs. Baseball caps emblazoned with “Rudy” were handed out.

The Quotes:

“I think we make a mistake when we call it the war on terror, because it is their war on us,” Giuliani told more than 1,000 people in the ballroom at the Sheraton New York.

“I have come face to face with America’s soul, and I have been sustained by it - I got through Sept. 11 not because of me, but because of other people,” said Giuliani, whose event featured the Yankees organist and tenor Ronan Tynan singing “God Bless America.

The Republican ex-mayor said “I’m seeking the presidency for the same reason that I ran for mayor, because I’m confident that with determined leadership, America can, from its strengths, accomplish goals which now seem very, very difficult. What I can do is get things done.”

Giuliani Notes: Senator David Vitter of Louisiana Endorses Rudy

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

Mayor Giuliani and Senator David Vitter of Louisiana and his wife Judith in Louisiana

Senator David Vitter Announces Support for Rudy Giuliani

The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee today announced that Senator David Vitter will serve as the Southern Regional Chair. Senator Vitter will help lead the campaign’s efforts to build support in the south and in the United States Senate.

In announcing his endorsement, Senator David Vitter touted Giuliani’s leadership and reputation as a proven problem-solver. “Rudy Giuliani has the strong, unwavering leadership and sound judgment we need in this time of war and terrorist threat. His performance under the extreme pressure of September 11th proves he is the determined leader our country needs to face today’s challenges head-on.”

“I believe the Republican Party needs to always be the party of free market economics and reform. Rudy implemented those principles as Mayor of New York by cutting taxes 23 times, making government more efficient and moving welfare recipients into jobs. It’s exactly the kind of conservative reform the federal government needs,” Vitter concluded.

A good pick up in the South for Rudy.

Louisiana is scheduled to have its Presidential primary election on February 9, 2008.

Another early state lock-up for Hizzoner?

The number of convention delegates is small in comparison to say California that holds their primary on Super Tuesday, February 5th but the Mayor wants to contend in all areas of the country.

Does he anticipate an early knock-out or a drawn out delegate fight?

Giuliani Notes: Rudy in Reno, Nevada

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

giulianimarch10gweb

Presidential candidate Rudy Guiliani is interviewed by the media outside of Costco in Reno, during a campaign stop suprising locals Saturday, March 10, 2007.

Giuliani in Reno, stops at Costco

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani is in Reno today, where he greeted shoppers at Costco off Harvard Way.

He stopped there to buy some supplies before a fundraiser this evening at a private Reno residence.

Guilani talked and greeted people while shopping through the aisles, purchasing socks, power bars, DVDs and a book about Richard Nixon’s relationship with a former Chinese leader.

One of the CDs Guilani bought was “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

At Costco, Giuliani signed autographs and posed for photographs with customers and employees. He also bought the book “Nixon and Mao,” and several movie DVDS, including “My Fair Lady,” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

“I love old movies,” he said. “They have much better prices here than back home.”

******

Shoppers were pretty surprised to see him at Costco, taking his picture and getting his autograph.

“It’s pretty exciting to come to Costco,” Debbie Zener said. “Buy groceries. Thank God I had a camera in my purse.”

“Last place I expect to see him,” Josh Aguilar said. “Kinda cool, everybody’s rushing him.”

******

But interestingly, using a Newt Gingrich analogy Rudy offered a “MEA CULPA”, admited mistakes and offered an apology of sorts for his family problems.

Giuliani defends Gingrich in Reno

Newt Gingrich’s admission of having an extramarital affair as he pursued President Clinton’s impeachment in the Monica Lewinsky affair has been defended by Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani.

Giuliani, speaking to reporters during a campaign stop late Saturday afternoon in Reno, said the episode shows no one is perfect and the former House speaker can improve by learning from it.

“I think the American people realize, and I’m speaking for myself now, we’ve made a lot of mistakes, and hopefully we’ve done some good things in our lives and it’s probably always been that way,” he said.

“The American people have to judge who is the most effective leader. They will not find a perfect person, and that’s probably good because we all have imperfections. Sometimes when you go through things like that in your life, you can become a better person,” he said.

Giuliani, who has been married three times and has chilly relations with his children, visited Reno for a private, $1,000-per-person fund-raiser.

While he called Gingrich “one of the smartest people in American politics,” the former New York City mayor said it was premature to say whether he would consider him as a running mate.

The unofficial BUZZ from New York is that Rudy has always considered Newt as a very well qualified running mate - if only he, like Rudy, could surmount politically embarassing family infidlities.

Will the American people forgive Rudy and Newt?

Probably or either one of them will NOT be elected to another office.

Many people have problems in their family and personal lives. No one is perfect. And isn’t redemption and repentance from sin well established in our Judeo-Christian culture?

You bet…….

The polls in the next few weeks will give us an indication if American voters will accept Rudy’s apology and move on to evaluating the issues of the campaign.

Republican strategists said the fund-raiser at the Reno home of developer and casino owner Roger Norman was expected to net more than $200,000 for Giuliani.

His visit comes three days after Nevada Republicans approved a presidential caucus for next Feb. 7, six weeks earlier than previously scheduled.

The Mayor returns to Washington Monday where he has scheduled an early morning news conference at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.

How do you spell commanding lead?

Hizzoner has been fundraising and stumping in California. Will Mitt Romney or McCain be able to contend and overcome Giuliani’s lead?

Doubtful…….

Will California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ENDORSE Senator McCain?

If Arnold does he will be picking the wrong horse in this horse race.

Stay tuned…..

Newsweek: Rudy’s Rise

‘America’s mayor’ has pulled ahead of the other GOP candidates in the early stages of the White House race, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll.

Maybe it is Giuliani time, after all. Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has pulled far ahead of Arizona Sen. John McCain in a hypothetical head-to-head GOP presidential primary matchup, according to the latest NEWSWEEK Poll—beating McCain 59 percent to 34 percent. Giuliani’s lead over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is even more formidable (70 percent to 20 percent).

Flap will summarize the poll:

Giuliani 59%

McCain 34 %

*****

Giuliani 70 %

Romney 20 %

******

Is this GOP race over?

Flap supposes that the donors will be asking the hard question:

Is my money going to be WASTED donating to McCain and Romney?

Right now the answer is YES.

Let’s look at the head to head race with Hillary:

giulianimarch3fweb

Rudy has now pulled ahead of all Democrat contenders including Hillary.

Note Well: Rudy leads Hillary in independent voters by 7 percentage points.

Are American voters making an early decision?

Perhaps.

Flap wants to see an electoral map poll. I bet it is not even close.

Stay tuned…..

McCain wins close state straw poll

Sen. John McCain narrowly won a presidential straw poll held in the northern part of this early voting state, local Republican officials said Friday.

McCain beat former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani by just two votes. The Arizona senator’s tally of 164 ballots was six more than California Rep. Duncan Hunter. Severe weather Thursday night caused a low turnout of about 800 people and forced the tallying to be suspended.

The results left no clear-cut favorite in this conservative county in South Carolina, which will hold the first Southern Republican primary on Feb. 2.

“We’ve got three people at the top that are significantly different in philosophies and what they bring to the table,” Spartanburg County GOP Chairman Rick Beltram said. “This race is wide open.”

The final vote:

John McCain 164

Rudy Giuliani 162

Duncan Hunter 158

Sam Brownback 85

Mitt Romney 80

Mike Huckabee 21

And the vote when counting of votes was halted last night:

Rudy Giuliani 158

Duncan Hunter 152

John McCain 116

Sam Brownback 83

Mitt Romney 80

Mike Huckabee 21

So, let’s see in the remaining ballots between last night and today the votes counted were:

John McCain + 46

Rudy Giuliani + 4

Duncan Hunter +6

Sam Brownback +2
Mitt Romney No Change
Mike Huckabee No Change

Of the remaining 58 votes John McCain received 46 or 79.3 %

Kind of fortuitous don’t you think?

How do you spell BULL?

The South Carolina GOP better get its act together and assure an impartial ballot or Flap suggests they forget about straw polls.

Now, it is anyone’s guess who has a leg up in South Carolina.

Back to the real polls……

Update:

Kavon over at race42008 has some more of the bull, McCain’s operatives are pulling at CPAC.

I guess watch out for the well-dressed operatives from D.C..

But, Dirty tricks don’t buy you love………

Giuliani's solid fiscal record

The Cato Institute’s blog publishes a small item on the growth of New York City government spending during Giuliani’s tenure. It reports that NYC general fund expenditures grew at a 3.6% annual rate, from $31.3 billion in 1994 to $40.2 billion in 2001. Meanwhile, the city’s general obligation debt grew at a 2.3% rate during the same period.

This compares favorably to the growth in U.S. nominal GDP, which was 5.3% over the period (my calculation, not CATO’s, and I don’t have figures specifically for New York’s economy). Federal spending grew 6.8% over the same period.

For Romney watchers, the Massachusetts state budget grew at an annual rate of 5.2% during his tenure (FY03-FY07), according to my calculations.

Giuliani can hold his head high in terms of fiscal restraint.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: The Spartanburg Straw Poll

Hotline: Spartanburg Straw Poll Tonight: A Preview

In the Spartanburg, South Carolina Straw Poll, Fox News is reporting:

Rudy Giuliani 108

Duncan Hunter 80

John McCain 64

Mitt Romney 53

This shows the popularity of Mayor Giuliani.

Rudy Giuliani is NOW the front runner for the GOP nomination for President.

A WIN for the Mayor……

Update #1 - From fox News @ 10 PM EST With 71 of 75 precincts reporting

Rudy Giuliani 123

Duncan Hunter 110

John McCain 86

Sam Brownback 68

Mitt Romney 59

Update #2 11:15 PM EST

Spin from South Carolina:

A spokesman for Giuliani said the numbers, while small overall, were encouraging.

“I think this is one small event of a very, very, long campaign, but it’s a clear indication that the mayor’s message of leadership and his proven track record is resonating,” Elliot Bundy said.

McCain’s third place finish is not a reflection of his strength in South Carolina, campaign spokesman Adam Temple said.

“There’s going to be many polls between now and election day,” Temple said.

Romney’s campaign said it was pleased with the former governor’s finish.

“I think we outperformed where we’ve been, where all the public polls that had us at 5 and 6 percent,” spokesman Terry Sullivan said.

Flap’s assessment:

A definite WIN for Giuliani in a southern conservative state where he was NOT supposed to do well according to the pundits.

A definite thumping to Mitt Romney and John McCain

An uplift for Duncan Hunter of California - is Hunter emerging as another top tier candidate?

Kavon had mentioned yesterday about Bill Simon, the Giuliani campaigns, Director of Policy on Fox News responding to a story that Romney to Begin Giuliani Attack Campaign?

Is this it?

Or the start, right before CPAC?

And how will the Giuliani camp respond?

Well, the Flapster is not a part of the Giuliani campaign but supports the Mayor for President.

The Video:

Flaps response:

1. Romney looks and sounds WEAK

2. Romney, THE FLIPPER, lives in a glass house…..

3. Romney should remember the GOP’s 11th Commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”

4. Romney should get his FACTS straight: Mayor Giuliani does NOT support Gay Marriage.

The overall impression: Mitt Romney looks uncomfortable attacking the Mayor.
