Rudy Giuliani Watch: The You Tube Debate Flap Continues

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

Remember the Flap?

Captain Ed has a good round-up of the discussion in the RIGHT Blogosphere including the dust-up between friends High Hewitt and Patrick Ruffini.

Flap is going to take a more parochial view for the Giuliani campaign. Does this format and the debate aid the Giuliani campaign in Florida?

Obviously, NO WAY.

As it has been discussed here previously, Florida is a KEY state for Rudy prior to Super Duper Tuesday on February 5. Giuliani leads the GOP field in most Florida polls but Fred Thompson has closed the gap to around three points in the latest poll. And Fred Thompson has not announced a formal candidacy and will not until after Labor Day.

Anyone want to guess, when he will announce?

Right! - After the September 17 debate.

Let the other GOP candidates make asses out of themselves answering left-wing MORONIC questions and look un-Presidental while Thompson announces shortly afterwards and runs positive television and radio ads.

Sorry, Patrick, this is not the bell-weather of GOP vs Dems on the internet - It is a TRAP for Rudy.

And this MORON obviously doesn’t read Wikipedia

Rudy Giuliani Watch: A Nationwide Electoral College Strategy

Cross Posted from FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani shakes hands after he spoke to supporters in San Francisco, Monday, July 23, 2007.

Yesterday Flap wrote about North Carolina that is likely headed towards changing their Presidential electoral college delegate rules for the 2008 election cycle.

In a similar vein, Dave G over at Race42008 writes about A Red State No More concerning North Carolina and points to a piece over at Eyeon08 that alludes that Missouri may be leaning blue.

But, does this make ANY difference with Rudy Giuliani as the GOP nominee?

Probably not and why?

Giuliani WILL be competitive in states in the East and West Coast that no other GOP nominee can match. Remember this part of the Giuliani campaign strategy.

Michael Duhaime, Giuliani Campaign Manager:

I think we are—or at least the candidate best positioned to win the general election. There’s no doubt in my mind Rudy Giuliani can put in states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Oregon, Washington in the Republican column. He can certainly make states like New York, Illinois, California– very expensive states into very competitive states and ones that certainly the Mayor can win. I don’t believe that any other Republican can make that same claim.

Republican presidential hopeful and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani stops at a Costco to do some shopping and meet with voters during a campaign stop on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in Phoenix.

Rudy does NOT want to be a GOP nominee who then loses to Hillary. Hence, in the PRIMARY, he is running a national general election campaign.

Look at his travel schedule for this week:

Monday - San Francisco

Wednesday - Phoenix

Friday - Dallas

And this is what it is like every week. Flap receives the Mayor’s schedule from the campaign and the guy is all over the country - week in and week out.

Former mayor of New York City and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani (R) kisses the hand of Sara Berglund, 6, during a campaign stop in Dallas, Texas, July 27, 2007.

So, Rudy will NOT need to win all of the Red States that President Bush carried over the past two Presidential election cycles. Throw in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Washington and Oregon, and Rudy may be headed to a massive electoral college win.

But, Hizzoner will take a win.

Next week, the Mayor will start in New Hampshire and move onto Connecticut by mid-week.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Outraises GOP Field in Race for 2008

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

Republican presidential hopeful former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani points to the 17th Street Canal levee as he talks with Lakeview resident Kelly Alfortish during a brief visit to the Hurricane Katrina damaged areas in New Orleans, Saturday, June 30, 2007. Alfortish whose home was flooded during the storm and shared her story with Giuliani.

Romney, Giuliani report on fundraising

Republican Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign reported $17 million in contributions from April through June and $18 million in the bank for both the primary and general elections.

Mitt Romney’s campaign on Tuesday said the former Massachusetts governor had raised $14 million exclusively for the primary and had tapped his personal wealth for an extra $6.5 million.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitt Romney raised $14 million from April through June for his Republican presidential campaign and added an extra $6.5 million from his own personal wealth.

Romney’s fundraising fell short of his first quarter, when he raised $20.6 million and lent himself $2.35 million.

The GOP NUTS:

Romney:

– $14 million in primary contributions
– a $6.5 million loan from Romney
– a total of $43.9 million raised in the first six months (including Romney’s loans to his campaign)
– cash on hand is $12 million, which means that Team Romney has spent nearly $32 million dollars so far. Wow.

Rudy:

–$17 million in primary and general contributions

–Cash on hand is over $18 million for primary and general elections

– No campaign debt

Flap would like to see Rudy’s totals for the primary only but the fact remains he outraised or at least raised as much as Romney and did not burn through his funds like Mitt.

Rudy continues as the front-runner while Romney has burned funds with television commercials in Iowa and New Hampshire. Romney remains in fourth place in national polling and in important California and Florida.

Cash on hand comparison:

Rudy - $18 million

Romney - $12 million with $9 million in outstanding debt = $3 million

McCain - $2 million

Fred Thompson - ?

What others are saying:

National Review GOP Money [Yuval Levin]

The cash-on-hand situation really tells us why Romney felt the need to pump such a significant loan from his own pocket into the campaign. With that loan, the campaign’s coffers contain almost exactly what they did at the end of the previous quarter in terms of cash-on-hand. Without it, his campaign would have looked to be spending significantly more than it was taking in (which it is, due in large measure to television ads that are airing where early voters are, but not where donors are).

Overall, the GOP funding figures paint a picture of a strong Giuliani campaign, and a decent but not great Romney effort, which is burning through money at a breakneck pace. McCain, though, looks like toast.

CBN - The Brody File: Giuliani vs. Romney: Fundraising Numbers Are In

I’m being told by sources close to Giuliani’s campaign that out of Giuliani’s $17 million - $15 million of that is for the Primary Election. $2 million is designated for the General Election. Romney’s $14 million is all Primary Election money.

But, at the end of the day, the story here is Giuliani. He continues to defy the odds. People want to write him off because as a Republican, his views are too liberal. Well, he’s been pretty clear and public with his views and so far, financially at least, he’s not taking a hit. He may not be getting donations from The Southern Baptists Firefighters Association (is there really a group like that?) but clearly, there seems to be an appetite for Giuliani out there.

His strength is in the ideological middle and his tough talk on terrorism and reputation as a crime fighting straight talking guy who gets things done plays well in certain Evangelical circles. Not to mention, these Evangelicals think he is the only Republican that can beat Hillary Clinton in the General Election.

It’s a long road to The White House but Giuliani is beginning to prove he has staying power. Will it last?

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy Links Terrorism and Border Security

Cross Posted from the FullosseousFlap's Dental Blog

Republican presidential hopeful former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani points to the 17th Street Canal levee as he talks with Lakeview residents Kelly Alfortish and Tim Alfortish, right, during a brief visit to the Hurricane Katrina-damaged area in New Orleans, Saturday, June 30, 2007. The Alfortish’s home was flooded during the storm and they shared their story with Giuliani.

Giuliani links terror, border security

The car bomb scare in London and the attack Saturday at the Glasgow airport underscore the need for secure borders for the United States, Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said Saturday.

“This is the United Kingdom,” he said. “They have security that is at least equal to ours; they have intelligence services that have even had more experience with terrorism than ours has, you know, they have to be subjected to this. We’re in an era in which we need to know everyone who’s in the United States.”

Giuliani, who was mayor of New York at the time of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, said the federal government needs to ensure that its borders are secure.

“We need to end illegal immigration,” he said. “If we do, a lot of things can happen, in terms of how you resolve everything here. But if you don’t end illegal immigration, almost nothing is possible, because no matter what you do, things are going to get worse.”

Giuliani is proposing “tamper-proof” ID cards and a database that would track people in the United States from foreign countries. He also suggested strengthening enforcement at border crossings.

Giuliani, who spoke near the spot where a canal levee broke during Hurricane Katrina, said government at all levels failed after that storm hit on Aug. 29, 2005. He said he is accustomed to making government run more efficiently and believes he could do that as president.

The issue of illegal immigration IS linked with terrorism. With the defeat of Senate Bill 1639 this past week, the issue of illegal immigration and border security turns to the Presidential candidates.

Rudy is RIGHT on this issue.

Remember what John Edwards said?

Here is a reprise of Rudy’s smackdown.

Stay tuned………

Republican presidential hopeful former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, right, and Sen. David Vitter, R-La., visit the site of one of the levee breeches that caused severe flooding during Hurricane Katrina, in New Orleans, Saturday, June 30, 2007. Giuliani held a news conference at the 17th Street Canal. Work on the flood gates goes on in the background.
